My magazine uses the style and idea of another magazine, ‘Super Super’ in that it uses bright colours, puffs such as ’babycakes’ to give an idea of some of the content in the magazine and buzz words like ‘free’ to attract the audience. I used graphic feature, like the image of an exclamation mark to make the magazine busy and interesting with plenty to look at. I also made the content of the magazine similar to ‘Super Super’ so that it didnt only include information about music, but also fashion, art and nightlife to appeal to a wider target audience and convince more people to buy it as you get more for your money. I developed ‘Super Super’s ideas by using a more colloquial style of writing, such as using the letter Z instead of S and words like ‘init’ and ‘safe’ that typical teenagers use to connect more with my target audience and make it more fun, because when reading ‘Super Super’ I noticed it used quite formal language which I didn’t think matched the style of the magazine.

I began the magazine with the idea of aiming my magazine at both males and females and for an older target audience, of roughly 16-21 years olds, but after receiving feedback on my magazine, I have decided to aim it for a younger target audience, because the bright colours, band on the cover and font throughout the magazine suggest youthfulness. I have also decided to aim it to females because the band on the front are all female and the content, such as fashion, also represents females.

I attracted my female teenage target audience by using an image of people their age who they can relate to on the front cover, with direct mode of address to catch their eye and connect with them. I also attracted them through use of bright colours and graphic feature to make the magazine eye-catching and stand out from other magazines. I made the magazine relatively cheap with plenty of content including information about fashion, art and nightlife as well as music and a free gift so the audience are getting more for their money. I addressed my audience using colloquial language to act more as their friend rather than an adult talking to them, or someone superior. I chose to use purple background instead of pink to make it appeal to a slightly older audience and break stereotypes of a typical girl’s magazine.

I have represented my band by using bright colours and face makeup which is not a typical female stereotype making them seem a bit quirky and different. I have also made them seem quite fun and rebellious through use of colloquial language in the interview such as ‘ohmygod’ and ‘cuz’ instead of ‘because’ and by pulling funny faces in the photo on the right hand side of the double page spread. I made them seem like they are friendly and fun by them having their arms around each other and leaning in towards each other in the front cover photo and holding hands in the photo on the contents page, but I also made them seem like they had attitude, for example in the images down the left hand side of the double page where they are doing more serious faces with hand gestures and confident poses.

I have learnt a lot about composing photos, including the important use of lighting, costume and make-up, people’s expressions and backgrounds. I have also learnt about using Photoshop.

A possible publisher to publish my magazine may be IPC Media, because it is a very popular English magazine publishing company that appeals to a wide audience, including men and women of a range of ages. It also publishes music magazines including NME.

Since my preliminary task, I have learnt that ideas need to be simplified because of the complexity of Photoshop. I have also learnt that colours need to be thought about carefully because they often come out differently on screen than in your head. I found that my contents page in my preliminary task was unordered and therefore hard to read, so in my final magazine copy I made it easier to read and more organized. It was also quite boring, so I included some photos that reflect the content and graphic feature, in my final task to make it more interesting and appealing to the eye.

I also made the content of the magazine similar, not only including information about music, but also fashion, art and nightlife to appeal to a wider target audience and convince more people to buy it as it means you get more for your money. I developed ‘super super’s ideas by using a more relaxed style of writing to connect more with my target audience, because when I was reading their magazines I noticed they used quite formal language which I didn’t think matched the style of the magazine.

My magazine female teenagers through the use of the main image on the title page. It also represents teenagers through use of colloquial language in the double page article and through the fun, bright colours throughout the magazine. It also represented teenagers because the content of the magazine also included information about fashion, art and nightlife as well as music to appeal to a wider range of teenagers.

I attracted my audience by using an image of people their age on the front cover, with direct mode of address to catch their eye and connect with them. I also attracted them through use of bright colours and graphic feature to make the magazine seem exciting and interesting to convince them to buy it. I also attracted them by making the magazine relatively cheap with plenty of content and a free gift so they are getting a lot for their money because many students are on tight budgets. I addressed my audience using slang language to act more as their friend rather than an adult talking to them, or someone superior.

I have learnt about composing photos, including lighting, people’s expressions, backgrounds and composure. I have also learnt a lot about using Photoshop.
